This school, in Hull, wanted a sculpture which comemmorated the Second World War, but didn't glorify it in any way.
Firstly we had a visit from some veterans - it made my hair stand on end listening to their stories - especially about Dunquerque.
Then we had research time for ideas, and then we made models, using wire, card etc.
This is the sculpture which won the school vote - a woman shelters under her kitchen table during an air-raid. She has her cat and a cup of tea. She listens to the wireless. For further protection she has a saucepan on her head.
But how far away is the whistling bomb?...
