Waters Edge

When the Environment Agency completed the new flood defences in Barton, they wanted some art-work to comemmorate the fact.
I had already done a major ceramic project with the local Secondary School (see Queen Street ceramics) so I was asked to work with the school again.

Working in small groups the year 9 pupils designed the tiles, using ideas and images we came up with in a preliminary design workshop.
Then they made the tiles using a robust terracotta clay which they then painted with coloured slips.
There are 12 altogether.
I fired these, then we set them into concrete, with stainless surrounds.

They are on the river front, by the new Waters Edge visitors centre if you want to go and see them
